Swim, bike, and run for a great cause - cleaning up the Neuse River. The triathlon entry fees will support the Neuse RIVERKEEPER Foundation in their efforts to improve the river and educate the public about water quality issues.
When: Saturday, September 5, 2009
Where: Duke University Marine Lab, Pivers Island, Beaufort, NC
Info: Check-in begins at 12 pm and the first wave of swimmers will be sent off from Pivers Island at 1:30 pm . The race takes the same route as last year and consists of an 800 meter swim to Radio Island, a 6 mile bike around historic Beaufort, and a 2.5 mile run to the finish line back at Pivers Island. There are two levels of participation, recreational (a little more fun and relaxed, but still a timed event) and competitive (really out to win!)
Participants may register as individuals for the entire event, or sign up as part of a two or three person team. A BBQ will take place immediately following the race at the Duke Marine Lab on Pivers Island, with a raffle drawing and prizes for racers, craziest costume, and most environmentally outfitted. The evening BBQ will be free for Triathlon participants and non-participants will have to pay a fee for the BBQ.
