How Do I Get More Information?

Come and Visit Us!

  • Plan an Individual Visit
Prospective applicants or students who can visit the Nicholas School of the Environment are encouraged to do so. A visit presents an excellent opportunity for the applicant to ask questions and gain insights about the school. Because very few classes are offered on Friday’s at the Nicholas School, prospective applicants or students are encouraged to schedule their visit Monday through Thursday; visits are not possible on Saturday or Sunday. Prospective applicants or students wishing to visit during the summer break, which begins mid-May through late August, should know that classes are not in session and faculty are often on research leave. However, an admissions officer is always on-hand to meet with prospective applicants or students.

Prospective applicants or students are encouraged to avoid scheduling a visit on the following dates: Fall 2009 Term (October 2-7 Fall Break: October 30 Visitation Day; November 24-December 13 Final Exam Period) and Spring 2010 Term (January 1 New Year’s Day; March 8-12 Spring Break; Admitted Students Weekend March 26-27; and April 8-9 Master’s Project Symposium). The University’s academic calendar also provides some insight as to when classes are not in session and when faculty & students will most likely be unavailable during your visit. Prospective applicants or students wishing to visit the school must plan their visit at least two weeks in advance.  To schedule an individual visit, contact an admissions officer in the department of Enrollment Services at admissions@nicholas.duke.edu.
  • Overnight accommodations: To view a list of local hotels located near Duke University’s west campus, go to: Durham area Hotels. Prospective applicants or students who pursue overnight accommodations do so at their own expense.
  • Transportation accommodations: To view a list of local transportation options, go to: Taxi and Shuttles. Prospective applicants or students who pursue transportation assistance do so at their own expense.

    • August 21, 2009 (fall)
    • November 30, 2009 (winter)
    • April  8-9, 2010 (spring)

At the end of each semester, the School sponsors a symposium where students present the results of their master’s projects. Each student must present his/her masters project in an oral presentation during the winter, spring, or fall MP symposium. These presentations are to be of professional quality. Attendance is open to the public. Registration is not required. Presentations schedules are generally available one month prior to the symposium date. For more details or to request a schedule contact admissions@nicholas.duke.edu.

For further information or to arrange a school visit, prospective applicants or students should send an email to the Office of Enrollment Services at admissions@nicholas.duke.edu, or call (919) 613-8070.
