Multivariate ENSO Index

| by Bill Chameides
posted by Erica Rowell (Editor) | comments (False)

The El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon affects year-to-year climate variability. During El Niños (represented by red) Pacific Ocean waters tend to be warmer than normal; during La Niñas (in blue) they tend to be cooler. Predictions show another cold winter might be on the way, thanks to an oncoming La Niña. (Source: NOAA - http://www.cdc.noaa.gov/ENSO/enso.mei_index.html)
