Statistically Speaking: Natural Gas - Future Green Fuel?

Seen those natural gas commercials on TV? They tout natural gas as the low-carbon, low-pollution, homegrown, near-term solution to break our addiction to oil. Sounds great, but is it true?

Tailpipe Emissions From Light-Duty Vehicles Running on Compressed Natural Gas

As compared to emissions produced using conventional gasoline

Carbon monoxide: ~95 percent less
Carbon dioxide: 25 percent less
Nitrogen oxides: 35-60 percent less
Particulate matter: 100 percent less
Volatile organic compounds: 50-75 percent less
Total greenhouse gases: 29 percent less

The statistics suggest that natural gas is great –- so what are we waiting for? Next week we’ll take a closer look.

not only the transportation sector but ... "electric generation and industrial applications that require energy, particularly for heating, use the combustion of fossil fuels for that energy. Because of its clean burning nature, the use of natural gas wherever possible, either in conjunction with other fossil fuels, or instead of them, can help to reduce the emission of harmful pollutants."...
