Anyone who has ever had any personal dealings with the Wetland Center during the past ten years knows Lisa Blumenthal Rattray. Lisa began working at the Nicholas School back when it was still known as the Duke University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, and she has been Assistant to the Director of the Duke University Wetland Center since the center’s inception in 1990. She is the Founding Editor of the WetlandWire as well as a key contributor to many proposals and programs developed in the Center. The capstone of her career at the Wetland Center was the planning and coordination of the International Biogeochemistry Symposium held at Duke this past June. Of course Lisa’s school connections go further back. An alumna of the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, she earned her MEM in Coastal Ecology in 1980. Her undergraduate degree is also from Duke. While we were delighted to congratulate Lisa on her recent marriage to Jim Rattray, this meant she would be leaving Durham to live in Rhode Island. The good news is that she was recently appointed as the Nicholas School’s Recruitment Coordinator for the Northeast. She will be a spokesperson for the School’s educational programs and a prime contact for prospective students. I’m delighted that Lisa will be representing the Nicholas School, yet I’m also very sorry that her new duties take her away from the Wetland Center. Her shoes will be difficult, if not impossible, to fill. We’ll miss you Lisa, but we look forward to seeing you around the school from time to time in your new role. Best wishes from all of us!
